Science concepts that is important for primary level students
Science for primary school level is not just about studying the facts. More importantly the aim should be for children to gain the understanding of important scientific concepts. Some of the important concepts are stated below.
Classification and organization is the first concept. Students must be able to classify any objects that they observed such as living things and non-living things. They can also group them according to similar characteristics like mammals, birds, plants etc.
In systems, students learn about a group of related and interacting parts like the digestive system and the respiratory system.
As things are changing constantly, the concept of change is an important science concept. Water can change from liquid to solid by freezing. Similarly it will change from solid to liquid by heating.
The concept of diversity helps students to explore and discover many types of organisms and that they feed on different things.
In cause and effect, students understand that there is a cause for every effect. Experiments like growing a bean sprout enable the children to learn that plants need light and water to grow.
It is crucial that parents understand these important aims of the education system. Parents that continue to push their children to remember facts through repetitive exercises will stifle their children’s gaining of the basic scientific concepts.
