Learning Math through the Math Buddies Way
How many times have you heard children say “I don’t like Math!”?
How many times have you tried, unsuccessfully, to convince children that Math can be fun?
How many times have you noticed that children seem to be struggling with Math year after year?
How many times has it crossed your mind: Maybe children are either born gifted or naturally weak in Math?
At Math Buddies, we believe that every child is capable of doing well in Math. It all depends on the learning approach.
Every child is different. Hence, a method which works well for one child, may not work for another. It is with this belief that Math Buddies provides an alternative approach to learning Math.
THE FUN ELEMENT
Math Buddies believes that the best way to engage a child is to engage all the five senses while learning. Children are encouraged to explore and understand Math concepts through hands-on activities, fun worksheets, games and puzzles.
Does this mean that we need only to make Math easy for children and they will do well in it? No, simply because there is no easy or magic formula for doing well in Math. It requires a much focused effort to make the subject applicable. Math is not just a school subject. It is happening all around us.
THE CHALLENGE
Watch children play a sport or game - they run and perspire and might even fall - but they just love it. Why? Because children naturally love challenges. At Math Buddies, we challenge children to think and arrive at answers themselves by consistently asking them questions. Math, more than any other subject, requires us to think clearly and logically.
THE PROBLEM SOLVING TOOL
No matter what we choose to do or study in life, problems are a part of it. We encourage children to talk their way through a problem and arrive at the answers themselves through careful guidance by our Buddy Leaders. This builds confidence and confidence brings more interest in the subject. Interest is fundamental in doing well in anything.
THE REINFORCEMENT
Learning concepts are only useful, if we are able to apply and reinforce what is learnt.
Math Buddies provide ample opportunities for children to see the bigger picture - to see the connections and having a deeper understanding of what they’re doing, when they do it, and why. This is done through consistent quizzes and challenging papers to reinforce concepts taught.
Do not mistake a struggle in Math as failure. No child is weak in Math. They just may not have learnt Math the Math Buddies way!
